BRP Rotax began their involvement in karting back in the 1980’s when they produced a limited number of high performance 100cc engines for racing purposes. Just being involved wasn’t enough for Rotax - they were also highly competitive, for example taking 9 out of the top 10 positions in the 1988 CIK Karting World Championship.

In 1997 Rotax launched the “Max” Engines, and in 1999 they launched their own racing series - the Rotax Max Challenge - which is raced in countries all over the world and culminates in a Grand Final race into which the top drivers from national and regional Max Challenge are invited to take part to determine the overall Max Challenge Champions.

The Rotax Max engines including other versions for such as the Mini-Max, Junior-Max, and DD2 as well as the Rotax Max Challenge have changed the face of the Karting World. The Rotax Grand Finals are considered to be the largest most international karting event on the calendar. Over 200 drivers from over 50 countries take part in the racing.
