July 24th, 2008.

Racing Team Press Release:

KRS Motorsports was out in full force with their Intrepid karts at the Rotax Max Challenge Asia series which headed over to Subang, Malaysia for its 3rd round on the 19th-20th of July. Intrepid demonstrated to the region that they have arrived by grabbing the top step of the podium in the MicroMax, Junior Max, and Senior max categories!

In the Rotax Max Senior category Mikko Nassi took delivery of his new Intrepid Cruiser Max chassis just one week before the event and wasted no time in getting up to speed in the kart. In qualifying he took pole position and followed it up with a lights-to-flag win in heat 1 finishing almost 3 seconds ahead of 2nd placed driver Ooi Fei Hoong. Heat 2 was the low-point weekend for Nassi as he experienced an engine problem resulting in a non-start putting him in the middle of the pack on the starting grid for the pre-final.

Despite losing a place on the start Nassi took his time making his way through the field making sure he kept out of trouble. He took the lead on lap 13 of the 20 lap pre-final and scored maximum points and secured the pole position for the final. “I got a little bit worried after a DNS in heat 2 but after coming up from behind to win the pre-final my confidence was high for the final. The kart handled better and better as the grip levels came up.”

In the final it was simply a case of putting in lap-after-lap of blistering pace and Mikko was never challenged by his rivals with the gap to 2nd place finishder James Lee at almost 9 seconds by the end of the race. “I kept pushing all race long because there was a threat of rain and a few drops hit my visor half-way through the race. I was able to set my fastest lap very near the end of the race which shows just how perfectly we managed to set-up the chassis,” commented Mikko. Terence Chap also on an Intrepid made his way up to 6th place after a dissapointing pre-final. “I hadn’t quite gotten a hang of the Intrepid yet at previous races but now I’m starting to realise its full potential and am extremely pleased with the kart, and looking forward to challening for the podium,” exclaimed Terence.

In the Junior Max category Malaysian driver Muhammad Nabil continued his exemplary form on his Intrepid by taking the pre-final and final wins to solidify his position at the top of the championship standings. Nabil commented on his victory, “I’ve been busy with my studies but I’m pleased I’ve been able to dedicate enough time to karting as well to keep on top of my driving and deliver another victory. I now need a solid performance in Sentul to take the championship.” Nabil finished the pre-final only just ahead of Ryan Ritchie after a close battle but was able to improve further in the final by building a gap of almost 5 seconds ahead of Ritchie by the end of the race.

To add to the success in the the Junior and Senior categories, KRS Motorsports also produced an Intrepid victory in the MicroMax category. Arjun Maini from India drove a brilliant race to take a very close fought win only just ahead of Singapore-based German driver Brendan Seibl thanks to a last-lap move. This was the first time Intrepid karts were seen on the grid for the MicroMax category, and with the impressive results they will surely feature at the following round as well.

The Rotax Max Challenge Asia heads to Sentul in Indonesia for the final round on the 30th and 31st of August. This will be the final points-scoring round of the championship with a further non-points round to be held in Hong Kong in October.
